As a Board Certified Obesity / Metabolic Medicine physician, my goal is to assist people in maintaining good health throughout their lives. Unfortunately, studies show that although physicians continue to learn more about the human body, obesity rates are rising and people are becoming sicker. So, why is this happening?
First, let’s clarify… Obesity is simply a medical term and not a derogatory indictment of a person’s will power, level of food intake, or exercise habits. However, a diagnosis of obesity shouldn’t be overlooked because it can indicate the likelihood of developing certain illnesses.
Specializing in Obesity/Metabolic Medicine, puts the focus (where it belongs) on uncovering the root causes of illnesses and addressing methods of prevention, as opposed to prescribing medication for symptoms. Medical treatment is an “art.” It’s important to incorporate “patient” input alongside years of clinical experience and knowledge from allopathic (traditional western), integrative and alternative medicine, as well as other disciplines, such as nutrition science and chiropractic medicine.
What does this approach mean for you? Weight loss and better health. As you get closer to your ideal weight, diseases and other ailments can go into remission. Serious treatments, such as insulin and cholesterol medications, can be discontinued or dramatically reduced.
It is impossible to reach enough people through office visits alone. The Skinny on Fat program was developed to educate more people about “obesity” and its complications.
