FreedomWhen I first started seeing Dr. Petty I weighed 421 pounds. I took five different medications, three for diabetes including insulin and two for high blood pressure. But with a lot of encouragement from Dr. Petty I lost 100 pounds. I am not saying this was not difficult, but Dr. Petty was very supportive and really wanted to see me succeed. This way of eating has become my lifestyle and I have lost another 100 pounds in the last three years. I now only take one pill for my diabetes and I don’t have high blood pressure anymore. On those days I find it hard to stick to a low carb diet, I can hear Dr. Petty in my head saying, “Fat is your friend. Go eat some fat.” This seems to work for me. After my hip surgery, I was miserable.  Dr. Petty helped me to increase my energy (no more afternoon slump) and mental clarity.  On this program, I have clear skin (no eczema), less pain in my back and hips, and less gray in my hair.  I’ve lost at least 35 pounds.  I am down several dress sizes and have gained muscle.  I have increased strength and stamina for walking (especially uphill) and other exercise.

I wasn’t concerned about my weight but during a doctor visit, I learned that my cholesterol and blood pressure were up and I was put on medication.  I thought I was eating healthfully, especially at breakfast.  But, as I later learned, the high carbohydrate content caused me to be hungry throughout the day.  I wasn’t sleeping well and became anxious about my health since I was only in my fifties.  I sought help from Dr. Petty and we found that my hormones were not working properly.  Dr. Petty called it “metabolic obesity” even though I exercised regularly and didn’t look obese.

During 5 months of treatment, I lost 25 pounds and decreased (then eventually stopped) the cholesterol and blood pressure medications.  I feel great!  Though “lifestyle change” sounds hokey, it was necessary for me and I appreciate the information that helped me make those changes.
